FIVE ACTS SURPRISED THE JUDGES AND AUDIENCE AND WERE ANNOUNCED WINNERS OF
THE X FACTOR AUDITION PASS CONTEST

26 year-old Jonesville native announced as overall winner

The competition was fierce and intense at the Alexandria Mall on Saturday, March 23, as five acts stood out on top among the 43 acts of the 2013 THE X FACTOR AUDITION PASS CONTEST, sponsored by Vaughn Automotive and presented by WNTZ-TV FOX 48.

Shay Coleman, a 26 year-old songstress from Jonesville, La., screamed in excitement and shock as she was announced the overall winner of the competition. Coleman receives a guaranteed audition pass to the New Orleans auditions for season three of The X Factor, along with a prize package valued up to $2,000.

For the first time in Alexandria's THE X FACTOR AUDITION PASS CONTEST history, a surprise twist was announced, as a winner in four categories were selected -- teens (12-17 years old), young adults (18-25 years old), over 25s, and groups. In each of the categories, contestants had to place in the top ten overall acts during the audition round.  Among the top ten acts in the finale, the best score in each of the four categories was awarded an additional guaranteed audition pass to the New Orleans audition.

Arielle Butler, 15, from Alexandria, La., placed as the top teenage act. Ashton Dupre, 22, from Ville Plate, La., placed as the top young adult act. Since Coleman was announced as the overall winner, a second act in the over 25s received the guaranteed audition pass; Octavia Williams, 36, from Pineville, La., was announced as that lucky person. Finally, sisters Mandy and Tori Williams, ages 23 and 20 respectively, from Pollock, La., known onstage as the Sailor Sisters, placed as the top group act.

The remaining acts who placed in the top ten are as follows (in alphabetical order):

  • Shondrika Ballard, 28, from Alexandria, La.;
  • Kim Hataway, 36, from Pineville, La.;
  • Jack Hunter, III, 27, from Bunkie, La.;
  • Jeremy Johnson, 23, from Jena, La.; and
  • Shontrell Russaw, 25, from Alexandria, La.

The judging panel consisted of Shreveport native and The X Factor season two finalist Willie Jones, Mona Lee from Vaughn Automotive, and Patricia Buckhalton and Blake Rachal representing WNTZ-TV FOX 48.

THE X FACTOR SEASON TWO CONTESTANT, SHREVEPORT NATIVE WILLIE JONES WILL JUDGE AND PERFORM AT THE X FACTOR AUDITION PASS CONTEST

Country crooner adds to excitement for this year’s contest.

THE X FACTOR AUDITION PASS CONTEST will have a familiar face to TV audiences on this year’s judging panel.

Willie Jones, 19, from Shreveport, La., who impressed judges Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato and Britney Spears on the second season of The X Factor, will judge this year’s talent in Alexandria. Finishing in the top 16 of the program last year on FOX™, Jones will bring even more excitement to the already anticipated audition turnout, which will include a special performance for the crowd in attendance.

THE X FACTOR AUDITION PASS CONTEST will take place at Alexandria Mall, 3437 Masonic Drive in Alexandria, on Saturday, Mar. 23, 2013.

Since leaving The X Factor, country crooner Willie Jones has been in the studio working on material for an album and making appearances, which included the famous Louisiana Hayride last month. His audition round for “The X Factor” in Greensboro, N.C., has been viewed over 11 million times on YouTube™ and counting.

Jones began his journey onto The X Factor stage by competing last year in Shreveport’s version of THE X FACTOR AUDITION PASS CONTEST, by WNTZ’s sister station, KMSS-TV FOX 33 in Shreveport.

The winning act of Alexandria’s THE X FACTOR AUDITION PASS CONTEST, in which Jones will be among the judging panel, will receive a prize package valued up to $2,000.00, plus given a guaranteed audition pass for the first round of auditions in New Orleans for the third season of The X Factor, to air this fall on WNTZ-TV FOX 48. The ultimate winner of the show will receive a recording contract, guaranteed to pay out $5 million.

Solo performers or group vocal acts who are at least 12 years of age on or before January 1, 2013, and a resident of Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, Rapides or Vernon Parishes in Louisiana, or Adams County in Mississippi, are eligible to compete.

Registration for the audition will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and the Auditions will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Contestants must prepare a 30 to 60-second audition piece to be sung a cappella for the judging panel in the Audition Round.

The top ten (10) scoring acts will compete in the Final Round later in the afternoon. The ten acts will sing one song in entirety in front of the judging panel to determine the overall winner. The acts are allowed to choose to sing a cappella, provide a CD with backing music, or use their own non-electric-powered instrument in their performance.

“We’re very excited to have Willie search for someone to be a singing star,” says Sharon Rachal, General Manager of WNTZ-TV FOX 48. “He’s done it himself. He tried out, got on the show, and he will inspire others just like him to do the same.”
