BATON ROUGE, LA — Thursday, May 9, 2013 will be the first Louisiana Gray Day in honor of a man who died from brain cancer in 2010.
“The last thing he asked his family to do was to make something good come from his death.”
Gary Leingang, from Harahan, La, died from Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. In honor of brain cancer awareness month, his family sought help from lawmakers.
“Rep. Kirk Talbot will present a resolution declaring May 9 ‘Louisiana Gray Day,’” Mona Leingang, Gary’s wife and founder of the initiative, said. “We are hoping that citizens throughout the state will join our crusade to raise awareness by wearing gray on Thursday, May 9 [his birthday].”
The resolution will be read at 9:00 a.m. at the State Capitol. Each legislator will wear a gray brain cancer awareness ribbon.
