ALEXANDRIA, La. — The Alexandria/Pineville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau will begin the annual Close to Home Summer Program for 2012 on June 15. The program will continue through August 15.
The kick-off of the program will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012, at the I-49 Welcome Center, exit #94. The celebration will start with an 11 a.m. press conference with guest speaker Assistant Secretary of Tourism Kyle Edmiston, food, entertainment, displays, and door prizes.
Close to Home is designed to create awareness in central Louisiana, and beyond, of all the outstanding attractions to visit, and other opportunities to shop, dine, and relax right here in our own backyard. The 2012 program will focus on a number of area attractions in Rapides and surrounding parishes.
The program features “Tommy Tourist”, the typical tourist, who will visit area attractions and restaurants each week. The first person to recognize “Tommy” will win a prize bag. The adventures of “Tommy Tourist” will be announced weekly through clues via the CVB’s Twitter account: twitter.com/theheartofla, and Facebook Page: facebook.com/AlexandriaPinevilleCVB. Follow along with the clues to learn when and where “Tommy” will be in your area and to learn about the places he will visit.
