Baton Rouge, LA — The Senate Natural Resource Committee approved a bill that would prevent companies from drilling or storing chemicals in a salt dome without lawmakers’ approval.
SB 200 would make it harder for companies to drill near areas that have had a sinkhole or accident nearby.
The idea is to prevent another situation like damage to Lake Peigneur and the sinkhole in Assumption Parish.
If it's passed, it would be a huge step toward protecting drinking water and the environment.
Next, it will head to the senate floor.
