26 year-old Jonesville native announced as overall winner
ALEXANDRIA, LA — The competition was fierce and intense at the Alexandria Mall on Saturday, March 23, as five acts stood out on top among the 43 acts of the 2013 The X Factor Audition Pass Contest, sponsored by Vaughn Automotive and presented by WNTZ-TV FOX 48.
Shay Coleman, a 26 year-old songstress from Jonesville, La., screamed in excitement and shock as she was announced the overall winner of the competition. Coleman receives a guaranteed audition pass to the New Orleans auditions for season three of The X Factor, along with a prize package valued up to $2,000.
For the first time in Alexandria's The X Factor Audition Pass Contest history, a surprise twist was announced, as a winner in four categories were selected -- teens (12-17 years old), young adults (18-25 years old), over 25s, and groups. In each of the categories, contestants had to place in the top ten overall acts during the audition round. Among the top ten acts in the finale, the best score in each of the four categories was awarded an additional guaranteed audition pass to the New Orleans audition.
Arielle Butler, 15, from Alexandria, La., placed as the top teenage act. Ashton Dupre, 22, from Ville Plate, La., placed as the top young adult act. Since Coleman was announced as the overall winner, a second act in the over 25s received the guaranteed audition pass; Octavia Williams, 36, from Pineville, La., was announced as that lucky person. Finally, sisters Mandy and Tori Williams, ages 23 and 20 respectively, from Pollock, La., known onstage as the Sailor Sisters, placed as the top group act.
The remaining acts who placed in the top ten are as follows (in alphabetical order):
Shondrika Ballard, 28, from Alexandria, La.;
Kim Hataway, 36, from Pineville, La.;
Jack Hunter, III, 27, from Bunkie, La.;
Jeremy Johnson, 23, from Jena, La.; and
Shontrell Russaw, 25, from Alexandria, La.
The judging panel consisted of Shreveport native and The X Factor season two finalist Willie Jones, Mona Lee from Vaughn Automotive, and Patricia Buckhalton and Blake Rachal representing WNTZ-TV FOX 48.
