The Central Louisiana American Heart Association hosts its fourth annual "Go Red for Women" Luncheon on June 13, 2014, at the Alexandria Riverfront Center, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Chairperson of the event is Suzie Wagner, of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital. Rapides Regional Medical Center joins us once again as our Cause Sponsor.

This exciting event boasts many opportunities for luncheon guests this year. In addition to the heart healthy lunch served by local “Celebrity Waiters,” there will also be complimentary health screenings, a silent auction, and two wonderful guest speakers that will share their personal story dealing with heart disease. There will also be a “surprise” dance performance given by the Circle of Red. Circle of Red members say dancing is a great form of exercising and a great way to stay in shape!

The American Heart Association’s "Go Red For Women" movement uncovers the truth about heart disease – an often silent, hidden and misunderstood killer – so that all women can share the truth. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America today. Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death for females and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability. More than one in five females has some form of cardiovascular disease taking the lives of more than a half million women every year – more than the next four causes of death combined, including cancer.

“We’re raising awareness of a woman’s #1 killer, heart disease. Many times women look after everyone else but themselves." Wagner said.  "We’re hoping that this event will educate women about the signs of heart disease and also show them what they can do to do prevent the disease from occurring in the first place."

"Go Red For Women" is sponsored nationally by Macy’s and our local Cause Sponsor, Rapides Regional Medical Center.
