LA Insurance Commissioner talks healthcare reform

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 - 1:52am

The U.S. Supreme Court postponed a ruling today on several hot button issues including President Obama's controversial national health care reform policy.

Twenty-six states, including Louisiana, filed a lawsuit saying the president's plan is unconstitutional.

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon told members of the press club Monday he'd like to see changes made to national healthcare reform laws to help individual policy holders.

Donelon says the court's decision will have a big effect on Americans.

"I think it's a major expansion of government power for the congress to be able to require the individual to do something," says Commissioner Donelon. "It's one thing to say you can't do something. It's something else to say you must do something. "

The U.S. Supreme Court is now expected to make those rulings later this week.
