Louisiana's top young auto students compete in state finals

Tuesday, April 16, 2013 - 11:50am

Twenty juniors and seniors representing 10 high schools across Louisiana will meet in Alexandria to face-off in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition.

The competition takes place on Thursday, April 18 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Alexandria Riverfront Center.

The students will race against the clock to correctly identify and repair intentionally installed “bugs” in identical Ford vehicles. After properly diagnosing and repairing the vehicle, teammates must drive their Ford across the finish line, where their accuracy and workmanship will be judged.

In addition to receiving scholarships and prizes, the winning team will represent Louisiana at the National Finals on June 11 at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. There, they will compete against students from the 49 other states for the national title.

Each two-student team earned a spot in the Louisiana finals by earning one of the state’s top scores in the preliminary online exam. The Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition will offer millions in scholarships this year to students at both the state and national levels.
