Oak tree planted to commemorate Louisiana bicentennial

In honor of Louisiana’s big birthday, State Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain planted a brand new oak tree.

The commemorative tree is located on the northeast side of the A.Z. Young Park in downtown Baton Rouge.

Several state leaders joined with area school kids to help plant the special tree.

Commissioner Strain says the tree will do more than decorate the park - it will be a landmark for generations to come.

“When you plant a tree, it becomes a moment in time,” stated Strain. “That moment in time will grow, and this tree will grow for generations to come. So when you look at it, it represents longevity; it represents stability; it represents strength; that's why you plant an oak tree."

Commissioner Strain says the bicentennial oak tree will live for several hundreds of years.
