The Georges family announced today that they have purchased the state’s largest daily print newspaper.

The Advocate has been owned by the Manship family since 1907. Now, after two years of negotiations, the Georges are the new owners.

The Manships say they are sad to pass the paper on, but know it will be in good hands.

Mayor Kip Holden and Governor Bobby Jindal agree, with Jindal saying that keeping it local is a good way to go.

"As a Baton Rouge-native, I’m thrilled we have someone whose so deeply committed to the state and the community with deep Louisiana roots,” stated Jindal. “At a time when there is a lot of change in the newspaper industry, they are committed to success of this news organization."

The Georges own Georges Enterprises, which is a billion dollar family company.
