Parents can now apply for their student to take part in the Louisiana Scholarship Program. The program allows parents to move their children from "C" "D" or "F" graded public schools to private schools if they choose, and meet other eligibility requirements.

According to a release from the Louisiana Department of Education: "Student applications can be found online or at any participating school. While the list of participating schools will not be final until after all applications are received and scholarships are awarded, the Department has determined that 136 schools are eligible to participate in the program for the 2014-15 school year. Of the 136 eligible schools, 114 schools are accepting new applications. The deadline for the first round of student applications is February 28."

Bridget Williamston has two of her three children already in the voucher program.

"It makes me feel well that they are getting a better education than they was getting before," Williamston said.

Williamston's children attend Redemptorist Elementary School because of the program.

"it means a lot for me, because at first I didn't have a choice you had to send them to a neighborhood school. That neighborhood school was not a "A" or "B" school. "

Williamston noticed her kids found a new love of learning.

"I'm glad they like to go to school. they don't want to miss any days. .. I'm glad they are feeling good about themselves.

Now she's hoping her third child will also be able to get into the voucher program.

"It's a simple process to do. If you have trouble at the school your child is going to, I say give it a try. Give it a try," Williamston said.

DOE officials say you can find a copy of the scholarship program application online, or pick up an application at participating schools.
