Karen Profita is the new executive director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne hired Profita Monday, Nov. 18, following a process in which Board members received applications, interviewed candidates and submitted a short list of recommendations to Lt. Governor Dardenne for further consideration. She starts immediately and will earn $87,500 per year.

“While Karen is a newcomer to the seafood industry, her background in marketing and strategic planning will serve us well as we strive to tell the story of Louisiana seafood as the freshest, tastiest and most abundant in the world,” Lt. Governor Dardenne said. “And I think she’s the right person to work with the Board to address the budgetary challenges that lie ahead.”

Profita’s professional background includes more than 20 years of marketing, nonprofit and fundraising experience. Most recently she served four years as CEO of the Capital Area United Way, and previously held senior leadership positions with Children’s Miracle Network and the Our Lady of the Lake Foundation.
