Rapides Parish students won't be a part of the Mardi Gras celebration in two weeks, all thanks to mother nature and the Rapides Parish School Board.

The board decided at a special meeting Tuesday to cancel the planned Mardi Gras break, originally scheduled for Monday, March 3, and Fat Tuesday, March 4.

The decision was made in order to not extend the school year additional days due to the recent winter weather.  Students will also attend class an extra 20 minutes each school day from February 24 until April 8 to make up for the missed time.

What do you think of the decision? Post your thoughts on our Facebook page.
