Rural roads to get upgrade

Friday, August 10, 2012 - 4:30am

They're roads that may not be familiar to city dwellers, but they're vital links to keep our state moving; so vital the state announced ambitious plans to invest $150 million dollars worth of upgrades on 360 miles of state roads.

"We have projects all across the state that will be affected and get brand new surface for those communities," said Jodi Conachen, DOTD information director.

It's called the Quality Surface Program, and during the first year about 80 projects will begin all over the state in rural parishes.

"A lot of these roads haven't been touched in 30 years," Conachen said. "Not in the best condition and we want the community to have the best roads they can."
