NEW ORLEANS (WVLA) — A 16 year-old turned himself in to police Wednesday evening for allegedly participating in at least three armed robberies in the New Orleans area, officials say. One incident was caught on camera and shows an unusual counterattack by the victim.
The surveillance footage shows an incident that occurred in the 1900 block of Burgundy Street on Saturday, April 27. The suspect, armed with a shotgun, is seen approaching a man walking in the area.
After demanding money, the victim surprised his attacker by grabbing the gun and chasing the suspect. Moments later, the suspect tried to strike a bargain to get his weapon back.
“The driver of the vehicle said to the victim, ‘give me my gun back and I’ll give you your phone that you dropped,’” officials said in a press release. “The victim then used the shotgun to strike the rear windshield of the vehicle, causing it to break.”
Officials say this incident was the second that happened over the course of less than 24-hours within the same block. Details were not released regarding third incident the teen is allegedly connected to.
Due to criminal law regarding juveniles, the teen’s name has not been released.
