Time running out on BP tourism funds

Friday, June 15, 2012 - 1:11am

Time is running out for area tourism agencies to use $15 million of BP funds handed over after the Gulf Oil Spill.

At the end of the month, groups like the Louisiana Toursim Coastal Coalition will have to find new ways to fund efforts of restoring tourism to areas damaged by the BP spill.  The group represents ten parishes along the entire Louisiana coastline.

The groups says close to 20,000 jobs in that area are tourism-based.

Peter's says it costs big money to draw people to the coastline, and if BP doesn't renew funding, many tourist attractions will close.

They say tourism along the coast brings in $2 billion of the state's annual tourism economy.
