Trapper Joe of ‘‘Swamp People’’ arrested for domestic abuse

One of the main stars in the hit reality show Swamp People was arrested for allegedly hitting his live-in girlfriend while the two were intoxicated. The incident occurred at a Florida hotel.

Joseph Lafont Jr., aka "Trapper Joe," was arrested in Orange County, Fla. on Wednesday, June 20 shortly before 1:00 a.m. According to the arrest report Lafont was occupying a hotel room with his girlfriend of 9 months.

The incident started when the two began arguing over a cell phone call made to Lafont’s phone.

Both Lafont and the victim say she attempted to grab his phone, which was located on his waist. However, he claims he grabbed and shook her because, “she was jealous.” She claims that he, “attempted to burn her arm with a lit cigarette because she attempted to reach for his cell phone,” and he then, “grabbed her arms, shook her and punched, closed hand, her on the chest.”

The investigating deputy noted in the report that the victim’s chest did appear to be red, but no pictures were taken and she refused medical treatment.

A witness was also on scene and provided testimony cohobating with the victim’s statement.

The arresting deputy also noted that both the victim and the Lafont had a strong odor of alcohol on their breath.

The victim refused to press charges. However, Lafont was placed into custody and arrested for first degree battery (domestic violence) and second degree assault (domestic violence).

Joe LaFont is one of the stars of the History Channel’s reality show Swamp People. He is a Louisiana-based alligator hunter who works alongside his stepson, Tommy.
