Arrest made one week after kicked off CBS show “Big Brother”
LAFAYETTE, La. — There was a celebrity sighting in downtown Lafayette last night, but it didn’t end with autographs. Willie Hantz, from the reality show Big Brother, was arrested by Lafayette Police in the early morning hours on Wednesday, July 25.
Officers say they were called to the 300 block of McKinley Street to respond to a fight. During the course of clearing the crowds the responding officers noticed a vehicle in a parking lot acting suspiciously. When officers approached the car, the driver exited the vehicle and led police on a short foot chase.
Once police caught Hantz the officers asked him to submit to a breathalyzer test. Hantz refused and officers booked him into the Lafayette Parish jail on OWI charges.
Hantz was removed from Big Brother's current season by show producers a week ago after an on-camera altercation with another cast member. Prior to his removal, Hantz became a polarizing contestant on the show due to being discovered by fellow contestants as the brother of another hot-tempered reality star.
Hantz’s brother, Russel Hantz, who was one of the castaways on the reality show Survivor, was arrested in downtown Lafayette two years ago for assault.
