App prevents texting while driving

Everybody knows you shouldn't be texting while you're driving, but people do it anyway," says inventor Chad Kennedy

In many cases, the results can be deadly.

"Just about every day you see in the news or hear from friends about somebody who got into an accident and even some cases somebody who died as a result of texting while driving,” says Kennedy

According to buydropstop.com, 20% of injury crashes in 2009 involved distracted driving. That's a total of more than 300,000. Many involved teenagers. To try and stop it from happening Baton Rouge based CellControl came up with a solution. All you have to do is plug their device into the diagnostic port in your vehicle and you're set.

"It communicates with the phone to tell the phone how fast the car is moving. The app pops up and prevents the user from being able to text or doing anything else while the vehicle is in motion…You know if you have teenagers and they're driving that they're going to be texting while they're driving. Unless you have something like this in place to stop them,” says Kennedy.

And the results are already paying off. One of CellControl customers has already seen a 60% drop in accidents by their drivers since they installed the device.
