BATON ROUGE, LA — A bill banning Louisiana people from visiting social media sites while driving has gained final approval. The bill will now head to Governor Jindal’s desk.
The bill passed through the Senate on Tuesday, May 21 with a vote of 34-1.
When the bill becomes law, violators could face a traffic fine of up to $175 for the first offense and up to $500 for the second.
Texting while driving is already illegal in Louisiana. However, social media sites were not covered by that law. The bill’s author says this closes that loophole.
