BATON ROUGE, LA — With the New Year just days away, also comes those inevitable resolutions. Of course the most popular to lose weight, but where do you start?
Joey Juneau is a personal trainer. He's been doing this for two years now. So, he knows the first few months of the year are the most hectic.
"People just want to tone up and lose weight for their New Year's resolutions, whether it's 10, 20, 30 pounds. That's mainly people's main goals is to lose weight," Juneau said. "The hot months are January through about March."
Every year around this time, people hit up gyms and fitness stores all in an effort to start the new year off with a bang.
"The first quarter of the year, right after the New Year's, January and February our busiest time for fitness equipment. Everybody comes to buy new treadmills, ellipticals, and things like that," Kevin Cupit, the store director of Academy on Siegen Lane.
Because everybody is convinced that this year, they'll really stick to that resolution.
"This is the year I'm finally going to get in shape or I'm going to drop that extra 10 or 15 pounds. So they need to equipment to go with that," Cupit said.
However, a lot of folks give up too soon. If that sounds familiar, here are some ways to stick to your goals this time around.
"Do whatever you can to stay motivated whether it's watching videos or quotes or looking at magazines. Find like the look you are going for and work hard until you get there," Juneau said. "Once they start, then they're good to go. THe hardest part is just starting. If you could just start then the skies the limit."
Usually fitness centers and stores see a decrease in customers around April.
