BATON ROUGE, LA — Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is announcing a major tourism achievement for Louisiana—accreditation from Destination Marketing Association International. Louisiana is only the second state in the U.S. to meet the rigorous standards required to attain the international tourism industry’s highest mark. The achievement signifies DMAI’s seal of approval for Lt. Governor Dardenne’s tourism strategies and the Pick Your Passion brand.
“This international distinction means we are doing things the right way in Louisiana, and it shows in our results—record-setting numbers of visitors and tourism revenue in 2012,” Lt. Governor Dardenne said. “DMAI accreditation validates our commitment to quality tourism campaigns, and helps us immensely as we continue to attract visitors and create jobs.”
The accreditation is one of several accomplishments Lt. Governor Dardenne has overseen since he conceived of the Pick Your Passion brand in 2010, including the Southeast Tourism Society’s 2013 State Tourism Office of the Year.
The Louisiana Office of Tourism joins six previously accredited local destinations, or DMOs, in Louisiana: New Orleans CVB, Visit Baton Rouge, Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB, Shreveport-Bossier CTB, Lafayette CVC and Jefferson CVB. Only 180 DMOs internationally are accredited. The demanding DMAI accreditation process measures a broad spectrum of areas, including oversight, financial stability, marketing and emergency preparedness.
