There has been chatter in social media regarding an enforcement initiative by State Police on boat trailer inspection stickers.

There are rumors of Troopers issuing hundreds of citations at boat launches in South Louisiana.

Hopefully, the information below will clear up a few things.

YES - State law requires every trailer to have an inspection sticker. Every motor vehicle, low-speed vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and pole trailer registered in this state shall bear a valid safety inspection certificate issued in the state of Louisiana.

NO - The State Police has not begun a boat trailer inspection sticker enforcement initiative. This is not to say that you couldn't get a citation should a Trooper make a traffic stop and notice a registered trailer without proper inspection. However, our focus remains on safety violations (DWI, Aggressive Driving, Speeding, No Seatbelt, No Child Restraint, etc.) which directly contribute to fatal and injury crashes on Louisiana's highways.
