BATON ROUGE, LA — A litter of puppies and their mom were dumped by the Cortana Mall on Friday. The four puppies and their mother were found tied up to a dumpster lying in the sun.
A volunteer from the Northside Animal Humane Society picked them up and took them home. One of the pups had such bad heat exhaustion the vet said he would have died 15 minutes later if he stayed in that heat.
So now, local animal shelters are speaking out. They say this shouldn't be happening here in Baton Rouge.
"When there is other resources they can get their dog spayed for low or no cost through Spay Baton Rouge or CAAWS, Capitol Area Animal Welfare Society. There are lost of different avenues other than this," said Lori Darensbourg from the Northside Animal Humane Society.
Also, early Saturday morning five pit bull and lab puppies were dumped at an adoption event! The owner told the volunteers if they didn't take them she would just leave them, and she did. So its encouraged that if you don’t want puppies, please spay your dog. You can do it as early as 6 months.
