The hope was to draw visitors back to the Gulf Coast, but Hurricane Alex put a kink in the plans for the free beach concert that was supposed to be held this past holiday weekend in Alabama. Jimmy Buffett was set to headline the concert, but due to the inclement weather caused by Hurricane Alex, the performance had to be rescheduled.
Originally set for July 1, Buffett’s goal was to lift spirits and also drive much needed tourism dollars back to coastal communities. When the weather took a turn for the worse and the concert was officially cancelled last week, another wave of disappointment was felt by hotels and resorts in the form of numerous cancellations.
Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft said the 35,000 ticket holders will be eligible for the rescheduled concert, which will be held on Sunday, July 11.
Those who did not cancel reservations did gain a special treat when Buffett held an impromptu show at his sister’s waterfront restaurant in Gulf Shores.
