Ryan Hamner performs at cancer research and patient centers in Louisiana

Tuesday, July 6, 2010 - 10:01pm

Ryan Hamner has made his way to Louisiana for a special concert on his “Hear the Heart” tour. The Georgia-based musician is crossing the south visiting cancer research and patient centers.  He recently performed at the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, June 30.

At just thirty-three years old, Hamner has spent nearly half of his life battling cancer. As a four-time Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer survivor, Hamner knows all too well how much music can help the recovery process.

"Your blood counts might be low, and you might not be able to get out and do the things you used to do, so I want to give those patients something to look forward to,” Hamner said when asked about the “Hear the Heart” tour. “If I can get out there and play some free music for them, then maybe that will be something to make that day better for them."

Hamner is performing songs from his new album, Between the Lines, which is set for release later this week. The single from the album, “The View,” is featured on the free video game called “Remission.” The game was produced and financed by Hope Lab – a non-profit organization devoted to improving the health and quality of life for young people with chronic illness.
