Justin Cooper and Johnny Ledet, members of Northwestern State University’s bass fishing team qualified for the 2014 Carhartt College Series National Championship to be held July 31 – Aug. 2 at Chatuge Reservoir in Young Harris, Georgia.

Cooper and Ledet qualified for the nationals last weekend at the Carhartt College B.A.S.S. Wild Card Tournament in Florence, Alabama.

“We’re really excited about qualifying for nationals,” said Ledet, who is from Raceland. “At the regionals on the Ouachita River in April, we missed qualifying by five ounces. This was our last chance. We had a good first day and were quite confident. We hit a dry spot, but our first day held up for us.”

Ledet and Cooper have been improving as the season progressed. They recently won the LSU Bayou Bengal Classic on Toledo Bend.

“We have gotten better as we have taken part in more tournaments,” said Ledet. “Both of us are learning to adapt to conditions as we fish in different places.”

Ledet and Cooper are sponsored by Natchitoches Ford Lincoln, Black Diamond Caviar and V&M Baits. The team is seeking additional sponsorships to help them pay for the trip to the national tournament. For more information on sponsorships, contact Ledet at (985) 414-3769 or at johnnyledet3@att.net.
