BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA) — Southern Head Coach Dawson Odums says he's not nervous about Saturday’s Bayou Classic, where his Jags will go toe-to-toe with Grambling and their head coach Doug Williams. The Jags season hasn't gone the way they hoped at 3-7 on the year; Grambling is fairing even worse at 1-7. This could be a great opportunity for Southern to end the season on a high note.
Odums stated, “A lot rides on the Bayou Classic, can that help me sure. Everyone wants to go to Christmas after they beat Grambling. Nobody on our team has beaten Grambling. We are not only trying to change the direction of the program, but also the institution.”
Grambling Head Coach Doug Williams gave his thoughts on the game as well, “The three games that Southern did win - it was under his (Odums) watch. I’m sure the Chancellor and AD will take that into consideration. I am sure he is looking at what it could mean for him as head coach for Southern.”
Odums is partaking in his second ever Bayou Classic . Williams, a Baton Rouge native, has played in the first ever Bayou Classic 39 years ago.
