WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. David Vitter announced today that the U.S. Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) will award an $18,070,606 grant to the Vernon Parish School Board in Leesville. The grant will be used for repairs to the South Fort Polk Elementary School on the Fort Polk military base.
“The South Fort Polk Elementary School’s condition currently receives a failing grade, so this assistance will allow the school to improve their facilities and make it a better place to learn for our military families,” Vitter said. “These students have parents who are serving our country and I'm pleased we are closer to providing them with a first class learning facility.”
The OEA grant is funded through the Department of Defense (DOD). South Fort Polk Elementary was ranked 6th of 160 schools according to a recent DOD study that measured the current need for repairs in schools on military bases.
