LOUISIANA — The Louisiana State Department's top ranking state police official released a message via Facebook that is resonating with people across the state.
Colonel Mike Edmonson, who was appointed as the 25th superintendent in January of 2008, says his agency is exemplary in what they do and praised his employees for their hard work.
He wishes Louisianans a healthy and happy 2013.

Helen Keller once said that, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” I think everyone agrees that as we begin a new year, we are all hopeful. Faith and hope in the future sustains us both as members of the Public Safety team and in our personal lives.
No one denies that our agency, like all agencies, has been challenged to do more with less. We have indeed set an example for our colleagues throughout state government. We have been innovative, creative and have adapted to the fragile economic climate of our state. We are fortunate that Louisiana was slow to be affected by the national recession but we have also been slow to recover. While no one can articulate a timetable for improved economic forecasts, I remain optimistic. I know the difficult decisions we make today will help us to be more efficient in the future. I know that we have strong support for our mission from the administration and legislature. And I know that our state citizens are well served every day by the commitment and dedication of Public Safety employees. You are my unsung heroes.
We should also be hopeful for our personal health and safety and the safety and well-being of our respective families. This has been a difficult year for several of our Public Safety employees. Many have suffered through serious medical situations and some continue to do so. Others have lost loved ones. But during those difficult times, hope is the spirit that helps us cope. Those of us who are part of the larger family of Public Safety must support our co-workers through those difficult times. I have been gratified by the generosity of our employees in holding benefits, raffles, and other events to help our friends through difficult days. What an inspiration for all of us.
As year 2013 begins, I wish you and your family the best of health and happiness. May God in his wisdom and perfect plan bless you, keep you safe and continue to guide us all. And in the words of Brad Paisley, "Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.”
