BATON ROUGE, La. — If you and your sweetheart stay married long enough, you could be honored by the state.
Governor Jindal took time out to honor the state's longest married couples on Valentine’s Day at the Governor’s Mansion. It's an annul tradition.
Ten couples from across the state were honored. Two were from Denham Springs and one was from Brusly.
One pair married for 73 years told us the secret to staying married for such a long time.
“A lot of patience,” Ed and Hilda Guidry said with a laugh. “A lot of up and downs. We've been through bad times and good times and happy times.”
The state's oldest couple, Norman and Norma Burmah have been married 81 years! They were married in 1931. Mrs. Burmah told us the key to a successful marriage is simple - listen to your wife!
