Baton Rouge, La — Hundreds of local small business owners have a leg up on the competition thanks to one of the biggest companies in the world.
Google held a pair of workshops today aimed at growing small businesses in the Baton Rouge area.
More than 300 peoples signed up.
They learned about products that Google offers to small business owners and got tips from the company on how to use social media to engage their customers.
97 percent of people with internet access use it to look up products and services, but Louisiana companies are struggling to attract their attention.
"If they (the consumer) don't find the businesses they're looking for, then that business is going to lose out on the opportunity to make a sale,” stated Joe Demike with Google. “Sixty-four percent of the businesses in Louisiana do not have websites, and Google's here to change that."
Google helped every attendee set up a website for their company, which they can use free for 12 months.
This was the third time Google has held an event like this in Louisiana, but the first time they've come to Baton Rouge.
