NATCHITOCHES, LA — A Department of Corrections Inmate who escaped from the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on Thursday afternoon has been captured near Jackson, Mississippi according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr.
Derrick L. Evans, 29 of Natchitoches, La., serving time for Attempted Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm by a Person convicted of a Felony was arrested near Jackson, Miss., at approximately 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit, and Rankin County Sheriff's Office working in conjunction with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office High Tech Crime Unit and Criminal Investigations Division according to Asst. Chief of Investigations Reginald Turner.
Evans was transported to a Mississippi jail and will be extradited to Louisiana at a later date.
Chief of Investigations Greg Dunn stated that no one was injured during the intensive manhunt, and we intend to investigate the matter further to determine if anyone assisted Evans in his escape.
Sheriff Jones, wishes to thank the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Apprehension Task Force, Rankin County Sheriff's Office and all of the deputies involved in the quick apprehension of this potentially dangerous escapee.
