NEW ORLEANS, LA — The New Orleans Pelicans received the sixth overall selection in the upcoming NBA Draft, as determined by the 2013 NBA Draft Lottery held tonight in New York City.
This marks the first time in franchise history the Pelicans have held the sixth overall selection and only the fourth time the franchise has drafted in the top ten since the franchise moved to New Orleans.
Going into the lottery, New Orleans had an 8.80% chance of landing the top overall pick and a 29.13% chance of moving in to the top three selections. The Pelicans were originally slotted fifth.
Pelicans Head Coach Monty Williams (on-stage representative) as well as Owner Tom Benson, Forward Anthony Davis and a group of executive staff including General Manager Dell Demps were present tonight at the Disney/ABC Times Square Studios in New York City for the lottery drawing.
The NBA Draft will be held on Thursday, June 27th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. and broadcast by ESPN at 6 p.m. CT.
