Highest placement from Louisiana contestant since 1996
LAS VEGAS — She didn’t take home top prize of Miss USA 2013, but she represented Louisiana well Sunday in Las Vegas.
Miss Louisiana USA Kristen Girault, a 21 year-old brunette beauty from the New Orleans area, is the first top 10 finalist for the state since 1996. That year, Ali Landry frrom Breaux Bridge won the Miss USA 1996 title and has gone on to be a sucessful actress and children's apparel entrepreneur.
Girault made the first cut of the 51 contestants into the top 15. After competing in the swimsuit competion, she placed in the top ten. She was eliminated after she competed in the evening gown competition.
“We are so excited to have placed in the top 10 out of 51 states,” Reness Girault, Kristen's mother, said.
Girault is currently a student at the LSU Nursing School in New Orleans and is a former Saintsation cheerleader for the New Orleans Saints.
The competition was held at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Miss Connecticut USA, Erin Brady, took home the top honor. She will compete in Russia for Miss Universe 2013 in November.
