SHREVEPORT, La (KMSS) -- Ark-La-Tex residents are prepping for a heavy downpour today that could result in major flooding.
Director of Emergency Preparedness Sandy Davis held a briefing for Caddo and Bossier Parishes at around 10:00 a.m. Davis says the potential for tornadic activity is less, but warns the area could possibly see 5-8 inches of rainfall, and other isolated spots have a chance of receiving up to 10 inches through midnight.
Davis says the chances for flash flooding similar to 2009 in Bossier Parish is high.
To combat the rain, residents of Bossier City are collecting sandbags for potential flooding in their neighborhoods. City workers and jail inmates are distributing bags at the Bossier City maintenance yard.
Sandbags are available to all Bossier Parish residents.
Officials warn citizens to stay off the streets and at home for the duration of the day.
