West Nile-infected mosquitoes found in Ascension Parish

ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WGMB) — Mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus have been found in Ascension Parish.

A spokesperson for the parish president's office says mosquitoes have been trapped in several spots across the parish and tested.

We're told the infection rate for certain mosquitoes is higher this year compared to last year.

The Department of Health and Hospitals says, so far, ten confirmed human cases of West Nile have been reported.

There's also a higher number of mosquitoes carrying West Nile in East Baton Rouge Parish.
