BATON ROUGE, LA (WVLA) — "Hey listen a win is a win. It wasn't the prettiest win, but we will take a win at the end of the game," Brandon Bouchereau, LSU fan, said.
Bouchereau was one of many Tiger fans in Baton Rouge who watched the LSU Tigers beat Iowa Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl. After the game fans in Baton Rouge had plenty to say about their boy's in purple and gold's performance on the field. One thing fans we talked to liked.
"I thought we played really well defensively. I liked a lot of things we did especially with the freshmen," Drew Parks, LSU fan, said.
"Got to be happy the way the defense played. I mean the defense definitely showed up," Bouchereau said.
Another some fans didn't.
"I thought the offensive strategy was really vanilla today, because of the inexperience of the quarterback," John Brooks, LSU fan, said."It was obvious they didn't want him to running a whole heck of a lot either and getting hurt. I think that limited what we did on offense. "
"Would have like to see some more points," Bouchereau said. "Coaching was little suspect, but at the end of the day we are happy we came away with a "w". "
Fans had mixed feelings about freshmen quarterback Anthony Jennings.
"I mean I guess as a freshmen coming in against a very good Iowa defense, that I guess did really well in the big ten, he played pretty well. He wasn't really given opportunities to showcase anything, but I didn't think we needed too with the way we were going to run the ball," Parks said.
"I think we have a lot of concerns next year," Brooks said. "He's certainly not a polished passer. He was indecisive. He looked like he didn't want to make mistakes rather than throw some balls and let our receivers go get them."
Fans said the Tigers have some work to do with Jennings and the offense in the off season.
"He's [Jennings] got a lot of work to do, but I think the playbook will open up a little more next year and allow him to run a little bit if he needs too," Brooks stated.
"It's going to be more offensive line communication with the quarterback kind of figuring that out. That would be the biggest thing we could work on in the off season," Parks said.
Fans are already looking ahead to next season. A season they say should be a winning one.
"Younger players are still going to have to step up as in every year," Parks said. "But, I feel very confident about where we are going to be next season. I think we have a very good nucleus of a team. I think our corners are great."
"I think good things are going to come for the Tigers," Bouchereau exclaimed.
