Play ball! Opening games for Tigers, Jaguars

Friday, February 15, 2013 - 8:00pm

Baseball fans, the wait is almost over. Tonight, Friday, Feb. 15, the LSU Tigers and Southern Jaguars start the 2013 season in Baton Rouge.

At LSU, head coach Paul Mainieri embarks on his seventh year as the leader of the Tiger baseball team. His squad will open the season against ACC opponent Maryland with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch. The two teams have never played against each other. The Tigers are coming off of a season in which they were crowned SEC Champions. But, they fell a bit short of their ultimate goal of reaching the College World Series.

At Southern, head Coach Roger Cador and his team will open their season at 6 p.m. with a contest against Stillman College. The Jags will play the weekend series at Pete Goldsby Field because Lee-Hines field is under construction. Southern’s season ended a bit shorter than the team wanted a year ago. Coach Cador says he will lean on his pitching staff that has both depth and experience to lead the team.
